Geoglyphs: the desert breath

The ancient geoglyphs as the Nazca lines, or the mysterious geometric figures discovered in Kazakhstan near the banks of a lake thanks to Google Earth eight years ago by archaeologist Dmitry Dey, can be considered the ancestors of modern crop circles? In either cases the origin of these geometric figures remains unknown, as well as their meaning: were and are they works of alien or terrestrial origins, traces of ancient civilizations or strange natural phenomena?

Certainly, geoglyphs and crop circles have accepted the imagination of many and especially of some artists, who were inspired by the motifs and symbols present in both cases to create themselves artworks visible only from great height, demonstrating that at least modern men are able to independently carry out wonders similar to those appeared over the millennia (and continue to appear), on our entire planet.

One of the most beautiful and significant is visible at El Gouna, in the Egypt Sahara desert near the Red Sea, and despite going slowly degraded by the action of the atmospheric agents it is admirable in all its splendor from March 1997 on Google Earth (at coordinates: 27°22'54.59"N, 33°37'48.46"E). This installation is called Desert Breath, occupies an area of 100,000 square meters and it was created by three Greek artists, Danae Stratou (wife of former Minister of Finance of Athens, Yanis Varoufakis), Alexandra Stratou and Stella Constantinides, members D.A.S. Arteam, displacing 8,000 cubic meters of sand.

It is shaped like a double spiral, in the center there is a round artificial lake that has now dried up; one of the two spirals was realized by creating perfect cone of sand, creating the second of the holes equally perfect and totally specular. Over time the cones are falling and the holes are filling, but this is a fact expected and wanted from the creators of Desert Breath since in this way you can record the passage of time.

Although it is not as mysterious as crop circles, the Nazca lines or the geoglyphs of Kazahkastan, Desert Breath also has a perceptible charm esoteric: look at the pictures to understand it by yourself.
