Elisa Lam, a supernatural death
Elisa Lam (also known by her Cantonese name, Lam Ho Yi) was a Canadian 21 year old student, Chinese immigrants daughter, found dead in a water tank atop the Cecil Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, 19 February 2013. 3 years after the tragic event still it has not really understood the dynamic that seems to have supernatural traits.
Elisa Lam disappearance had been reported at the beginning of February and interest about her case had increased five days prior to her corpse’s discovery, after the Los Angeles Police Department released the security video of an elevator where she have been seen last time, on the day of her disappearance. In the footage you can see Elisa trying to start the elevator, which appears to be malfunctioning.
Elisa is seen exiting and re-entering the elevator, talking and gesturing in the hallway outside and then hiding within the elevator although you don’t see any other presence except her. Was Elisa seeing or hearing supernatural presences? For sure the girl, whose corpse was found naked with her clothes floating in the water near her, had not consumed any alcohol or drugs as demonstrated by the autopsy report.
The authorities speculate then to cause agitation of the girl was bipolar disorder which she would suffer and that her death had occurred as a result of an accident, but access to the roof, where the corpse of Elisa Lam was found, was locked, and only to the service staff of the hotel had the key. Six months later her death, even the blog of Elisa Lam was update, but not by her parents nor any of her friends. Who could have had access to it?
The Cecil Hotel (now Stay on Main) was also involved in some of the darkest crimes that occurred in the last century in Los Angeles: Elizabeth Short, victim of the city’s best-known unsolved killing, Black Dahlia, supposedly made the Cecil her last stop before dying, while in 1964 Goldie Osgood, the “Pigeon Lady of Pershing Square”, was raped and murdered in her room at the hotel. At the end, the “night stalker” serial killers, Jack Unterweger and Richard Ramirez resided at the Cecil while active.
Last two coincidences: eight years before the movie “Dark Water” had told a similar story, a reluctant guardian hotel, a dead girl and other surprisingly similar details like the elevator scene. Finally, shortly after the girl’s death, a few blocks away, in Skid Row, it was reported a tuberculosis outbreak: health authorities used to eradicate it a kit called “Lam-Elisa”. All coincidences or something supernatural has sealed the fate of the unlucky girl?
